Ryan Hamilton: ‘Newcastle Charm’

By Niamh Christian

We all know Geordie girls have a special sort of charm, especially Texan rocker Ryan Hamilton who has released a single all about their ‘Newcastle Charm’.

The song is one of the few singles released before his new album ‘Nowhere To Go But Everywhere’, which came out September 18th. It’s a brilliantly written tribute to the wonderful North East Capital which has become somewhat of a second home-away-from-home for Hamilton in recent years. After previously falling in love and marrying a girl from Newcastle, this song creates a beautiful picture of the city and the people who make it what it is. A buoyant song you’ll be singing along to in no time, with its captivating chorus and melodic verses.

A beautifully praising song for a city with a ‘cold exterior and a great big heart’, and a love for the regional pronunciation and accent, ‘Newcastle Charm’ is a wonderful commendation for the greatest city in the North East. Hamilton’s love for the Toon came from his ex-love: ‘I didn’t really know what a “Geordie” was before I met my ex-wife. But then I married a girl from Newcastle, and soon became fascinated by the whole “Geordie” thing…’

His newly released album ‘Nowhere To Go But Everywhere’ is essentially a breakup album, being created post his divorce, as he desperately searched for a new start while hitting the highway across the States. Reconnecting with the Harlequin Ghosts, Ryan managed to explore his talents and create some of his most intimate and soul touching work.
