KITES – ‘Pretend’ review

By Niamh Christian

There’s not much better than a sad yet upbeat indie love song to cry and sing my heart out to. 4-piece rock and roll outfit from Newcastle, KITES are set to release their third single on June 19th, ‘Pretend’.

Heart aching lyrics sung with silvery emotion-filled vocals, crying “I don’t believe in myself somehow”, this moving single is gripping and entrancing.

Somehow gloomy but groovy; touching themes with a rhythmic melody, tuneful progressions and a catchy beat. It’s the kind of song you want to sing along to at the top of your voice, I can only imagine how good this must be live! With inspirations such as The Verve and Travis, they have managed to capture the essence of 90’s Britpop with a modern take, I’m really looking forward to hearing more from KITES in the future.
